Genetics play a big role in the propensity to become addicted to drugs that affect the pleasure center of the brain. Does that mean that the person born in a family with this genetic composition is doomed to be addicted too?
Studies show that 60% of the addiction is related to genetics, however, those genes don’t get activated except by exposure. Avoiding smoking in front of children would protect them from getting first exposure. Drugs and Alcohol are also working in the same way, so If I know that my family has those genes and I want to be free of any addiction then I better not try them.
